The Stylistics of Landscapes, the Landscapes of Stylistics

This chapter investigates the aims and scope and methodological underpinnings of ecostylistics, against the background of ecocriticism, ecolinguistics and stylistics. The theoretical and methodological frameworks outlined in the first section of the study are subsequently applied to the analysis of Amitav Ghosh’s novel The Hungry Tide (2005[2004]). More specifically, a close ecostylistic reading of three extracts from the novel through Systemic Functional Grammar (SFG; Halliday & Matthiessen
