Terra Australis

The 1800-1804 Baudin expedition was the greatest voyage of marine exploration of its age. The map makers surveyed around 50% of Australia's then largely unexplored coast - proving it a single continent, which led to the first comprehensive map of Australia's coastline. Over 200,000 botanical specimens were collected and 2,542 species identified for the first time. Despite his commitment and achievements Nicolas Baudin was largely unrecognised.
