Les faules d'Esop s'han convertit en un terme manta per a col·leccions de rondalles breus, que solen implicar animals. Moltes històries incloses a les faules d'Aesop, com The Fox and the Grapes (de la qual es derivava l'idioma "raïm agre"), The Tortoise and the Hare, The North Wind and the Sun i The Boy Who Cried Wolf, són conegudes arreu del món.
