Israel in the International Arena

There has always been a sense of exclusiveness about Israel’s place in the world.As a small nation, a democracy and the only Jewish state, Israel is, indeed, aunique international actor. Israel is also one of the few states not formallyaffiliated with any regional bloc; equally, it does not belong to any pact oralliance. As Abba Eban has noted, the ‘state of Israel has more unresolvedmatters of interrogation hanging over it than most other political units in themodern world.’
