Homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia (HoFH) is a rare inherited condition causing extremely high cholesterol levels from birth. HoFH significantly increases the risk of early cardiovascular disease, sometimes before age 20 in people who are not treated. Treatment options include tablet, injectable, and intravenous medications, and lipid apheresis. Genetic testing, where available, confirms diagnosis.
