Just as Jackie and I were preparing ourselves and our mom to go to Michigan, I got the call at work. It was my older sister, Connie. She was crying. The hospital in Ann Arbor had done more tests on Patty, and they found a malignant tumor in her esophagus. The doctors decided that it would be no use to try radiation on her. The cancer in her brain was moving rapidly; there was nothing left to do. The doctors gave her a week to live.
