Dessirray the Sophisticated Duck is based on a true story. Dessirray was the author's pet duck, and she lived on a twenty-acre farm located on a high mountain in a very small town called Crabtree, Arkansas, with a lot of other animals. Dessirray was a very gentle and sweet-natured duck.
