Since 1961, when pain therapy was introduced by Bonica, the-re have been world-wide efforts to establish basic regimensfor the treatment of chronic pain. Yet many patients stillcontinue to suffer from intractable pain despite the availa-bility of effective treatment that would greatly improvetheir quality of life. The lack of specialists familiarwith recent developments is one of the causes. There is con-sequently a great demand for interdisciplinary pain clinicsand specialist training programs.
